Our Story

Gatsby Jewellery was established online in 2012, but our journey started much earlier than that.

We met when working together at a jewellery shop in Hatton Garden and fell in love - not just with jewellery, but with each other - and married in 2009.

Back in the early 2010s we could see that the future for retail was online, even for a ‘tactile’ industry like jewellery. Our years in Hatton Garden furnished us with the knowledge and experience of working in the cut-and-thrust world of jewellery to set out on our own.

In the early years of Gatsby, we were mainly on the road: travelling up and down the UK and across the Europe. We bought as many pieces as we could get our hand on - as long as they were truly beautiful and unique.

We did this for a few years until the business - and our family - grew too big to make regular travel possible. But the contacts we made on our travels means that we remain able to acquire some truly outstanding treasures.

Gatsby continues to grow, as does our passion for antique jewellery. We love that the pieces we find are often wholly unique, and offer a glimpse to a bygone past where jewellers were artists, not manufacturers. When jewellery was handmade, not churned out in factories. When detail and quality truly mattered.

We only sell natural diamonds (lab-grown has its place, but that place is nowhere near us!) and the overwhelming majority of our stock is independently assessed by third-party laboratories across the UK and Europe, which provides peace of mind and certainty.

Gatsby is a proud member of LAPADA, CINOA, the NAJ, AIAD, Antiques are Green, as well as graduating with honours from The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A).

Investing in jewellery can be daunting, especially online, so we make a particular effort to being honest, open and approachable - to that end, we have written an internal charter called The Gatsby Guarantee.
