[message]Your engagement ring is likely to be the most important piece of jewellery you’ll ever buy, and something that you will cherish forever.
That’s why choosing the right design is so important. But how do you know where to start? In this post, we cover just a few of the different styles of engagement rings to choose from to help you find the perfect piece.
Classic engagement rings
If you (or your soon to be Mrs) is a traditional, classic sort of gal, chances are that you’re looking for a timeless, vintage engagement ring.
Classic engagement rings feature a diamond of any quality and can be crafted in any precious metal, be it gold, platinum or silver. Diamonds are what people most associate with an engagement ring - no matter the style of the ring, diamond engagements rings will never go out of fashion. Edwardian rings in particular are wonderfully classic, offering a romantically timeless look.
Cluster rings
If you’re searching for a diamond engagement ring that has dazzling sparkle, a cluster might well be the choice.
If opting for a diamond, choosing Art Deco rings can ensure you will find a dramatic selection of diamonds in unique styles.
Cluster rings most often feature a large stone in the centre, complemented by a border of small diamonds. It’s a look that works just as well in a contemporary ring as it does in antique pieces. Although the setting diamond and the metals used vary from ring to ring, the effect is always the same - bling!
Coloured diamonds
Coloured diamonds are an excellent choice for those looking for something special, which truly stands out from the crowd.
Known for their rarity and charm, diamond colours are graded from D, which is colourless, to Z, which is light yellow. Some diamonds are coloured in rarer shades such as green or red, or a combination of colours, such as the light greenish-yellow seen in this stunning old cut diamond engagement ring.
Gemstone rings
Who says that engagements rings have feature diamonds?
If you’re not afraid of colour and are looking for an antique engagement ring that stands out from the norm, gemstones could be exactly what you’re looking for. Mid Century rings, in particular, offer colour, glamour and style.
Gemstone engagement rings only ever feature diamonds that complement the central gem. Ruby and sapphires are hardwearing and, as such, are a viable option for everyday wear and tear.

What hand do you wear your wedding ring on?
You wear both your engagement and wedding ring on your left hand. Just before the wedding ceremony, the engagement ring is moved onto the right hand, so that the wedding ring can be placed on the left hand (closest to the heart). Then, after the ceremony, the engagement ring is moved on top of the wedding ring.
