[message]An antique ring is an artefact that should be cherished.
If you choose your jewellery correctly, it can be treasured (and worn) for many years to come, unlike many other, cheaper rings that diminish in quality as the years pass.
In this article, we’re sharing three of the key points you should consider when buying antique rings. It’ll help you to double-check that you’re purchasing the perfect piece!
1: The style of the ring
Although this might sound obvious, go for something you love. Some people are tempted to play it safe when buying a piece of antique jewellery that they plan to wear every day, but don't be afraid to be bold.
The style should be a reflection of who you are. The styles available in antique rings are much more varied than today’s jewels, so why not choose multi-stone rings or cluster rings. If you're worried that you might not love your antique ring in the years to come, remember: beauty never, ever goes out of fashion.
2: The gem
Whilst diamonds - and diamonds rings - are forever, gemstone rings often stand out more. There are of course those who prefer antique rings with a traditional look, in which case a classic diamond ring may be the better choice.
Diamonds are by far the most durable gemstone, but sapphires and rubies are almost as tough and durable. Emeralds, opals and pearls aren't quite as robust, so if you're a slightly heavy-handed person, it might be better to avoid these particular gemstone rings!
3: To stack or not to stack
Larger cluster rings obviously take up a lot of space on the finger - and these statement rings deserve the space on the hand to truly stand out.
But a great look to consider is to stack several slimmer rings on one finger for a striking and truly unique look. Try looking at antique wedding rings, Victorian five stone rings and vintage eternity rings that you can layer. Rearrange or swap out a ring or two to completely alter the look.
Whether you're investing in an antique engagement ring or looking to treat yourself to something you can wear every day, don't be afraid to be bold or introduce a bit of colour.
